The hash tag, or “pound sign” has become ubiquitious with Twitter.com’s search model. It’s so addictive, I find myself using it on facebook, in emails, and even the occasional #SMS… whoops, there I go again. At any rate, the hash tag can make a movement where there was a void before. I recently saw my friend Tim use this on Twitter, using the tag, or hash, #insteadofshopping he also made a video using the ever enjoyable animoto service.

There are countless examples of its use, #sxsw is a biggie, it symbolizes perhaps the place where the hash tag really took off, South by Southwest. More on that later, my 140 are just about #up.

Check out the hashtag here.

Black Friday, fitting that this day of deals would coincide with my call to arms to businesses that successfully use and embrace social media and the new world order of marketing communications.

So I ask thee…

If you or someone you know owns or operates a business using social media, I’d love to get in touch with them. In fact, even if you just want to send me a company name, and or a contact – I’d be into that. I’ll give you some twitter love and/or fresh cookies. Depends on what I’m baking that day, and I warn you, I haven’t baked for over 11 years. Twitter it is then. Thank you.

This is the first post in a coming series for the Twikinomics blog. I plan to make Twikinomics a useful term, place, and space for business owners to get a clear picture of how they can use social media. Please stay tuned for coming blog posts of Twitter, Media, and crowdsourcing for business using wikis & other tools technology provides. Thanks!
